I have been M.I.A lately. I’m sorry. At the last meeting, we talked about a November shawl knitting class and I never posted anything about it. Again, very sorry.

But, the new year is on the horizon and I hope it will bring lots of interest in what we are trying to accomplish here, which is celebrate the written words of Jane Austen.

Expect a post in the next week or so with information on a January meeting. Also, expect some posts from our soon-to-be-overseas correspondent Jennifer, as she shares with us her exciting adventures in England.

I would LOVE for someone to come forward that has some time they would like to invest in getting this little venture off the ground. Hope to hear from you soon.

My Jane Austen trip is just around the corner

Almost two years ago, me and a classmate decided that we wanted to do some type of special project with our college . It took little though for Alex and I to decide on Jane Austen. She and I have had a mutual love of Jane Austen since we were teenagers in high school. After almost two years of preparations, research, and rejections, we finally received an Odyssey Grant through our college and a special literature foundation affiliated with the college, to do research on Jane Austen. On our trip, we will be walking in the footsteps of her life to see things that influenced her writing. This is my first blog entry of many that will record Alex and mine’s trip to visit the world of Jane Austen. I hope that you enjoy the upcoming entries!

Just a quick post. I had to tell you all to go to the library and rent the 1971 BBC version of Persuasion. Watched it this weekend and it was fantastic! The acting and production were both excellent but what got me were the super sweet 70′s versions of Regency fashion. I wish I had pictures but the cover was all I could find. Get it!

The Downtown Dames will be hosting their annual tea this Sunday, September 27th at the Robinwood Bed and Breakfast (2021 South Arch St, Little Rock). Tea will be served from 3-5pm with a program presented by Ms. Laura Stanley, Arkansas’ first woman gemologist. Tickets are $35 and may be reserved by calling Margaret Wyatt at (501) 372-3372.

There are no dues for joining the Arkansas Region. However you must join the national Jane Austen Society of North America to be considered a member of our Region. The benefits of joining National include three issues of JASNA News, a copy of the scholarly journal Persuasions which includes papers presented at the Annual General Meeting, an invitation to attend the Annual General Meeting, held every October at various locations across North America, an invitation to join a tour to England with behind-the-scenes looks at Austen-related sites, and the ability to donate funds to restoration projects at Chawton Cottage and the various churches attended by Jane Austen.
